Oana Ivan is an anthropologist and documentary filmmaker whose work bridges visual and environmental anthropology. She holds a PhD jointly awarded by the University of Kent (UK) and Babeș-Bolyai University (Romania), where she now serves as Assistant Professor in the Documentary Film Department of the Faculty of Theatre and Film.
Her research explores the complex relationships between human communities and natural environments, particularly within protected areas such as the Danube Delta, the Danube Floodplain, the Eastern Carpathians, the Transylvanian Plateau, and the Apuseni Mountains. Through her films and academic work, she offers nuanced, ethnographically grounded narratives that illuminate local knowledge in relation with the natural resources.
Alongside her academic role, Oana collaborates as a consultant on research projects and visual storyteller with institutions such as the Romanian Ministry of Environment, Romanian Waters, the World Bank, National Geographic, and Electric Castle and many others. Her interdisciplinary approach aims to foster public awareness and informed dialogue around ecological and social sustainability.
